Home Affairs

1. The nomination of Mr Medgyessy as prime-minister to be has affected Mr Kovács as well, in a very positive way. His interview the other day in TV1 was much better than the previous few. Excellent, it seems now that the two will be able to pull the coach of the center-left to victory.

It is equally important that Demszky, this very proud of himself balloon has resigned from the post of presidency of the Alliance of Social- Democrats. With this doors opened up for close co-operation between the two parties . I hope very much that the new president will be wise enough to come to an agreement with the socialists to form a joint force for the coming elections.

2. Poverty, as it is seen by Zsuzsa Ferge (168 óra,  June 14, 2001, pages16-17)*

According to one of the best experts

- the poverty is deepening in the circles of elderly people, unemployed and lonely parents in Hungary,

- 30-40% of the population is living worse than 10 years ago, close to 60% of those interviewed recently consider that the "old regime" (the Condemned Era was better than the present one),

- around 3 million inhabitants are living below subsistance level (out of slightly more than 10 million),

- the status of the Roma population is such that generations will be ousted from the civilized society.

3. Molotov cocktail

A molotov cocktail was thrown today into the house of a Gipsy family. Two children incurred burnings.

21st century, civilized Europe.

Foreign Affairs

I do not understand why Chechens fighting for independence are called rebels, separatists, guerrillas by politicians and the media all over the world (e.g. Time, June 11, 2001, page 37), instead of calling them their true name: freedom-fighters, heroes?

Is it because the power that deprived and deprives them of freedom is a big power, or  is it just the good habit of this ugly world not to bother much about small nations when they are in trouble? Is it more important not to disturb the waters of a big power than the fate of a small nation?

I really do not understand!

I remind you: Chechens are fighting the 4th (I repeat: the fourth!) war for their freedom against the same nasty power. The only difference is that this power is changing dress and head each time, when decides to kill mercilessly hundreds of thousands of  innocent people.

The first representative of this power was Uncle Tzar and the dress was the uniform of feudalism-cum-church. The occupation of the peoples of Caucasus took some 20-30 years, though the Tzar was using all the means and tools of fellow colonizators.

The second representative was Stalin and the dress was the uniform of communist dictatorship. Chechens told me a few stories of the brutal way the soviet army transferred 700.000 innocent people, women, children included, in a couple of days to Far East (of the Soviet Union). Wagons full of people, with doors closed for three days, dead, babies among them thrown out into the snow when they opened the doors. Mother seeing how a dog starts eating her dead baby just taken from her arms. People who could not be "evacuated" were pushed in sheds and huts and burnt alive. Horrible.

The third representative's name is not important. He was one of the new tzars of neocapitalism, one of the worst gangsterisms of the after-communist era. He (they) decided to stop the falling apart of Russia not allowing small nations to declare independence and when one of them did so, they occupied it again using mass-killing weapons. The world will never learn the real number of people killed, executed.

The fourth representative is Putin and the dress has not changed much since the last occasion. It is the uniform of the same neocapitalism, just more dirty. And the merciless killings last for years now. Nothing remained of Chechnya. And the freedom-fighters are called sticky names: rebels, separatists, guerillas.

Will it remain so forever?

2. Szegénység, ahogy Ferge Zsuzsa látja (168 óra, 2001 június 14, 16-17. old.)

A tartalékok elfogytak.

Emlékeztetőül: a csecsenek a 4. (ismétlem: negyedik) háborújukat vívják a szabadságért ugyanazon utálatos hatalom ellen.

Marhavagonokba zsúfolt embertömeg, három napig zárt ajtók, majd a hullák, köztük csecsemőké kihajigálása a hóba, amikor három nap múlva kinyitották a vagonokat. Anya, aki látja, amint a kezéből kiragadott halott gyermekét kutya kezdi marcangolni.

A harmadik képviselő neve lényegtelen. A világ sohasem fogja megtudni a lemészároltak, kivégzettek valós számát.

A kegyetlen öldöklések most már évek óta tartanak.
